Atlantic Hurricane 2022 Season: Bad News
May 2022's Gulf Loop is looking a lot like it did in May of 2005 (Katrina's year).

May is picking up right where August 2021 left off. Hurricane Ida in August, the same dates as Katrina. What carnage these two wrought.

.

"The Atlantic hurricane season starts on June 1, and the Gulf of Mexico is already warmer than average. Even more worrying is a current of warm tropical water that is looping unusually far into the Gulf for this time of year, with the power to turn tropical storms into monster hurricanes.

It’s called the Loop Current, and it’s the 800-pound gorilla of Gulf hurricane risks.

I have been monitoring ocean heat content for more than 30 years as a marine scientist. The conditions I’m seeing in the Gulf in May 2022 are cause for concern. One prominent forecast anticipates 19 tropical storms – 32% more than average – and nine hurricanes. The Loop Current has the potential to supercharge some of those storms."

Forecasters have backed off developments in the southwestern Caribbean.

Strange times these are when we could be experiencing a significant named winter storm in CO, heatwave persisting in the south and into the NE along with potential tropical developments in the Caribbean/Gulf over the same weekend.

Re: Atlantic Hurricane 2022 Season: Bad News
Thread's intention is to alert people along the Gulf states and those along the SE and mid-Atlantic seaboards to the potential of this year's hurricane season.

Hurricane Ida was a real monster of a storm and not just for Gulf states. We recall the raging white water rivers on urban streets in NJ, PA and NY.

That said this Spring has been a turnstile of weekly severe weather for the south, midwest, upper midwest and upper plain states.

The warm Gulf waters are no joke.

Very first hurricane of the season should be named “Brandon” or “Xiden”.

Re: Atlantic Hurricane 2022 Season: Bad News
Be prepared and get used to this. It’s just going to continue to intensify in the future.

Also from the article:

Studies suggest that the Atlantic is likely to see more storms intensify into major hurricanes as those temperatures rise, though there won’t necessarily be more storms overall. A study examined the 2020 hurricane season – which had a record 30 named storms, 12 of them hitting the U.S. – and found the storms produced more rain than they would have in a world without the effects of human-caused climate change.

Another trend we have been noticing is that the Loop Current’s warm eddies have more heat than we saw 10 to 15 years ago. Whether that’s related to global warming isn’t clear yet, but the impact of a warming trend could be devastating.

and how did the climate ever change when there were no humans?

I fail to see how the hype will get everyone to give up their conveniences, these people are sitting there in air conditioning typing on computers and whining about how we don't do enough, lol

No development expected on the 'radar' for the next 5 days.

13 days, including today, to June 1st (opening day for 2022 hurricane season).

That said, not only is the Gulf Loop already in August form - western Africa is pushing out it's first trans-Atlantic dust storm.
Things are hot and dry there also.

Re: Atlantic Hurricane 2022 Season: Bad News
I Live in Florida so Hurricane season never fully leaves the mind. I just got a new roof this year due to storms.

I dreamt, recently that we had a storm so bad it created an entirely new category. I dreamt it hit the Florida East coast as a 5, traveled across the state became a 5 again in the Gulf; and hit Texas or NOLA, traveled inland and back out around South Carolina and circled back to hit Florida's East Coast again.

Talk about a nightmare.
This thread reminds me its time to get prepped.
