I'm over whelmed by grief. My dog
Died a few days ago. He was 14

To more knowledgeable,

His symptoms were

Extreme lethargy, distant look

Unable to move legs

Then some heavy breathing

Followed by deeper heavy breathing, tried to vomit but did not

Then died a few minutes later

Entire episode happened quick over maybe half hour

No time to rush to vet , vet closed

Tried giving some medicine could not take

What do you believe

Heart went out or hypoglycemic event ( now possible now I look back on it )

???

Doesn't matter. He's dead. You probably killed him with cheapo, Big Pharma kibble.

There. There. Sleep it off. Never get a dog again. Go to work. Obey.

14 years old is equivalent to a human being 98.
Do we look for answers when a 98 year old dies?

Take solace in the fact it was relatively quick and natural.

Ignore the know-it-all snark trolls. I lost one of mine in a similar way 10 years ago; she was 13. Very hard to take, I know.

Your buddy waits for you on the rainbow bridge. Remember with gratitude all of the companionship and entertainment your pup gave you. It was a big gift. Blessings.

Re: I'm over whelmed by grief. My dog
My dog died in Jan. She had to be put down due to congestive heart failure. Her last day she wouldn't look at me and she kept vomiting. A week earlier she had to go to the emergency vet due to fainting and a blueish tongue. That is when I found out she had CHF. They put her on heart meds. Three weeks before that the vet said her heart sounded good and put her on meds because she was having seizures. The day she was put down I brought her to the vet to change her heart meds due to the vomiting. The vet suggested I put her down because she also had a large abdominal tumor - (six months earlier I brought her to the vet because her belly looked bloated and the vet said she was just getting fat). I asked if there was any alternative and the vet said just painkillers. No treatment options, so I put her down. Now I am full of guilt that I didn't fight for her or do more for her.

I am so sorry for your loss, but please be grateful that your dog passed in its own time. I know grief is terrible, but at least you don't have guilt too, you let your dog choose when to go.

That's not true. A dog's age does not equal 7 human years for 1 dog year.

The dog would have an equivalent age of 72

Yep, I've had to put down two and it's one of the worst things I've ever had to do. He lived a good life. Remember the times you had with him and grieve a bit. Then start looking around for a breed you would enjoy. You'll see the best of your dog in the new puppy.

Dogs are here to teach us not to take ourselves too seriously and to live life for the moment.

Very sorry for your loss OP.

Been a year since I lost my “Poochie”. Life was cut short. 10lbs of just cool. Couldn’t go anywhere without people taking pics and video. Hurts horribly still.

My kid brought home a Husky-shepherd mix puppy recently, guess who watches her while he’s gone most of the day……

Sorry to hear that OP. I know I'll be devastated when my dogs pass.

However, 14 is a full life for a dog (some live a few years longer, but not many). Mine are both 12 now. One is still pretty active, the other has been getting "old dog syndrome" where they stumble around as if they're drunk, and she's also losing her eyesight.

Circle of life. He probably just died of old age.

So sorry to hear. Our oldest dog is 10 and he is displaying the same symptoms you describe. Almost like giving up. Spent $1,000 on vet bills and no answers. Most noble animal I've ever known, praying we don't lose him now.

You know a dog is a different species, right?

And you had plenty of time to prepare for this eventuality.

My heart goes out to you OP. I know very well the feeling of loss & grief when a beloved pet dies. I am sure that you gave your dog the best 14 years of life that a dog could ever have. Your dog died knowing much human love & care. You did all that you could to give comfort at the end. Now only time can lesson your sorrow. I am so very sorry for your loss.
