The name Indrid Cold originates from the face to face encounter described by Woodrow Derenberger. This happened in Wood county, WV along I-77, around 1966-67.
Easy to find websites discussing this encounter.
The name was simply borrowed for the movie script and was never really part of the Mothman saga.
