To students of electronics, Ohm's Law (E = IR) is as fundamentally important as Einstein's Relativity equation (E = mc²) is to physicists. When spelled out, it means voltage = current x resistance, or volts = amps x ohms, or V = A x Ω. [link to www.fluke.com (secure)] resistance isnt a factor when figuring amps. volts, watts. Saved abour 45 bux a month on power. Sit it paid for itself in 3 years. Also have it able to switch to charge batteries with an off grid inverter for outages. People posting on this thread are idiots... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83248394 I would like to do something like this eventually. Is it a requirement to hire someone for the grid tie in? Seems like it would be, how much did the labor on that aspect cost? Didn't cost me a dime because I did the wiring myself. Of course it's not exactly to code but I don't give a shit. Of course I probably went a little overkill on the wire sizes but paying extra for thicker wire is better than dishing out 9000 for a professional to do it. And yes 2/3 of the cost of a solar system is labor. For my little 3 kw system they were wanting around 9k to do the work and it cost me a little over 3k doing it myself. |

That's a system with storage, which is the only system I'd want. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83417969 But for me the savings isn't the point. It's the piece of mind. And I can have piece of mind with 500 watts of panels and 4 six volt golf cart batteries. That's enough to keep a deep freezer running, light a couple LED lights, and charge small devices. Deep cycle batteries need swaped out often. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 81398094 United Kingdom 05/26/2022 01:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The solar systems that feed back into the grid are designed to switch off when the grid goes down for safety reasons. They also need to use the Grid frequency for correct operation. So better to have a dual system one that is low voltage charging some kind of battery for lights and communication equipment, small pumps etc. There is little need for 120v and 240v systems for most basic domestic needs. |

My old (2017-2020)system paid for itself within 3 years and I still have it running my lights and refrigerator in my garage I updated to one 3 times and 3 times as big a d 3x as costly and it will pay for itself within the next year or two as well ... Panels last 20 years batteries a couple of years depending on usage after sunset I usually consume most electricity during the day my freezers a d refrigerator 8 am to 3 PM and the automatic timers shuts them on and off...only draw out of batteries at night through LED lights and screen I realize one day the sun will probably (2024?) Undergo some transformation a d will not be providing energy these panels can absorb...but 2 years is while out...a d by then I would have gotten my money's worth and then some |
