"The cost to move a container from Asia to a major port in North America or Europe has sunk by 23% since the beginning of this year, according to maritime research firm Drewry. Spot rates have plummeted even faster; marketplace Freightos said rates from China to the West Coast are down 38% month-over-month. FreightWaves forecast this week that ocean shipping volumes will “drop off a cliff” by this summer, based on slumping bookings out of China. "

In 2017, it cost my company $3200 to bring a container through port customs, it's 2022 and they are now charging $17.500 a container. I had 2 contains at port ready to be picked up by semi,s and port authorities said the drivers could not take them because they have not been paid for.
They wanted wanted 34k to release and I refused to pay it. Literally hold my goods ransom till I pay up.

The collective thought patterns of consumers are only going to get more complicated.

You can't just assume what they will do. It can change wildly.

Whoever is "they" are trying to stop you. That is the only reason for the massive hike in price, a form of war.

Nows not the time for blowing money on random merch.

Now is the time to get your 2A essentials squared away.

Good. I hope the whole thing collapses and we're back to bartering home grown vegetables with neighbors.

Well, everyone is paying at least double for food and fuel now...

That tends to cut into peoples 'disposable income'....

Doesn't sound like an issue caused by a lack of inventory

Absolutely baffling.

These idiots can't bother with cause and effect? How about the people who buy random crap haven't got any disposable income any more?

I just checked the Zillow price on my house, and it went up $18,000 over the last 30 days.

It is slowing down, because it went up by $30,000 previously.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72570930

Go sell it to Zillow moron.

The consumers have been consumed.

He was against the elite. Aren’t you? They are the one who don’t give a shit about inflation (like I don’t have to). You are the butt heart crybabies. Don’t you want what Gramsci wanted? A place without overlords where the worker is treated fairly? Or I guess not because then you would have a Brian.

People are just buying bare bones essentials. No add on's...

I work in Management Retail. There is no more disposable income. Sales have dropped off. Prices are increasing, due to inflation and a recession is here. Employees are jumping ship for higher pay at other Company's. Next will be a cut in work hours with overtime only approved through management...

About two years ago We stopped buy anything we really don't need. We have taken all extra monies and paid down debt the plan is to be debt free in less than five years.
 Quoting: Mithradates

Good idea but its a little too late.

Shit I got out of debt at the beginning of this year. I own my house with 3 acres of land, a nice sized garden and plenty of food stored up and I am scared shitless about what is coming, because I don't think it will be enough.

The cheaper resale shops are doing a booming business.I went there the other day to get some garden fencing, tomato cages, and birthday presents for my oldest daughter. I got there 15 minutes before they opened, and there was already 20 people in line. By the time the doors opened at 9am, there was more than 50 people in line.Got 30ft of like new garden fencing, 2 tomato cages, like new black suede fringed boots, like new leather red and black waist purse,2 sealed packs of new bath bombs, 2 new bath mitts with tags on,and a lace doily. Total was $22 with tax.
