It's a cultural thing. The mexican areas of Houston look exactly like Mexico.

The white (european descendants) areas of Houston are not like that.

22 years ago I partied in Cancun. It was scary then. 5 pesos netted the most terrifying hellride on a fucking BUS with a manual transmission. And when the pavement stops, so did any sense of safety and normalcy for an American in a foreign country.

I wouldn't go back there if I was paid. And the booze was free.
