Boy Scouts was awesome. We prayed, we camped, my scoutmaster was a nam vet. Never once encountered any gayness. He did once pull me out of my mom’s minivan by the ear when I was being a brat and refusing to do the car wash fundraiser. I deserved it.

We camped for a weekend every month, year round. Summer camp for a week every year at Lost Lake, rifle range, shotgun range, archery range. Spent a week at Sea Base on the Florida keys, camped on a tiny island in the middle of the ocean for a week. Snorkeling the reef, shark fishing, canoeing through the mangroves. Spent two weeks canoeing through the Boundary Waters in Canada, wild blueberries, waterfalls, bears and eagles. Some of my best memories are from my scouting days.
