Considering getting a Berkey with the optional pf-2 filters, what you think is it better or as good as reverse osmosis?

I'm certainly no expert, but I have owned the Berkey system for about 4 years now. In fact, I bought my mother one, as well as a couple of girlfriends one also..They can't live without them now..One of my girlfriends can live without me tho..LOL!

I hope someone can explain this to me as well. I'm thinking the osmosis types can remove dissolved minerals as well?

I thought minerals were a good thing. I won't tell you what filter choice I use because I am sure you will ridicule my drinking water as toilet water, not fit for a dog to drink, but anyways...some filters have minerals in them for the water to filter over to add taste to the product. Human bodies need a balanced ratio of minerals like salt, potassium, magnesium and lesser known minerals like boron, manganese, selenium, etc and even some ionic metals for health. Maybe you should see how your body feels after a month of drinking each filtered system and make your own decision from there??

I have a Kent Marine four stage reverse osmosis system that I originally bought for making baseline water for reef aquariums. And yes, it removes EVERYTHING, to the point that the water will not conduct electricity. Very useful for saltwater aquariums as then you control the makeup of your artificial seawater precisely with no unknowns present.
I've heard about the lack of electrolytes in the filtered water being harmful but I've been drinking it for ten years now with no ill effects. I do take a lot of other supplements though.
