The 38 Special revolver reflects a better time in America. Reminds when police just wore a starch shirt and Colt Trooper .38 or .357 and were known as "peace keepers".

That starch was way more bullet proof than the body armor more hide behind today.

it is not practical as a self defense firearm,

it is too big,

you need something that you can carry with you and people won't see it,

and you don't have to worry about keeping it on you,

when it comes to firearms the trick is to know where to shoot,

and a good aim of course,

Unless you miss and become a target yourself

For defense I prefer a light .380 or a solid 9mm where in seconds I can miss and still pepper an attacker to the point of no more harm

.357 Magnum is too big for me. You have to be able to hit what you are aiming at and I just can't with a .357. I am much better with a .38 +P. My favorite is a Smith & Wesson model 67 with 4" barrel. And before you all chime in and call me "pussy", I already know it. lmao

charter arms once made a fairly small, 5 shot .357 revolver..

.38 is a revolver round

.380 is a semi round

I love .357 but it's more a Russian Roulette thing

For self defense a .380 will serve much better

I have a Ruger LCP II in .22, it has been very reliable. I only shoot CCI MiniMag 40 round nose in it which works very well. I would not really want to rely on .22, but I do carry it when going backpacking for several days.

Easy to conceal carry snubby 357 revolvers, just have to have the right gear and dress for it. And no I don’t mean wear a dress but maybe here in WA state that would be the way to go.

If I remember correctly those are lead projections and lead being super soft, you'll have lead buildup leading to a backfire before even getting basic training in

A snubby 357 is good only for close encounters, like 3 feet or less cause every time you pop off the recoil will have you pointing to the sky damn near

At 15 to 20 feet a knife attacker is likely to get the jump and yet that barrel don't support necessary speed to do anything much to a wild animal
