Lorraine Boettner wrote a great book on Roman Catholism. I freaked out when I read about some popes having children with their children. Other sold their pope title and not to mention the Inquisition and other atocities. pope innocentII (what a joke that name is) was the first to make Jews wear a Star of David, so they would be labeled. They had to convert or die. Nice legacy, huh?

Wow I was just getting used to the old "deadly sins," and now we have new ones? They have taken a few away also. We can eat meat on Fridays without worrying about hell or purgatory.

My problem with the Catholic Church has always been its stance on contraception and also on the issues of women priests and married priests.

But the contraception issue has serious implications, especially in central and south America which is primarily Catholic and has rampant overpopulation which has led to kids being tossed into the streets of Rio, abject poverty throughout the region which has led to the outrageous number of Mexicans and Guatamalans headed for the USA and living here illegally.

It has also led to the gross destruction of huge areas of the Amazon forests throughout all of northern South America as settlers burn the forest and still end up with land that is wonderful for a jungle but not so good for crops.

The Church doesn't care how poor these people are so long as they keep them tied to the Church and keep them producing babies for the Church. It doesn't care that more than half the populations in these countries live in filth with no running water or electricity and in a state of semi-starvation unless they turn to crime and join the drug cartels.

I would hope that the next Pope is a much younger man who can simply say that overpopulation is a sin against nature and that it is sinful to have children you cannot feed. That would make more sense than this.

contraception should be sin. if you don't plan on having a baby, the proper thing to do is to pull out and shoot all over your ladies face. that's why the lord made it and that's what he would want you to do.

The Catholic Church is a jok and continues to expose itself as such.

No man stands between a soul and God. It's not for the Catholic Church to decide what constitutes sin.

That is a very broad statement. That you may have a clue as to what "All" of anyone may know or have a clue about is in fact not possible.

I was raised Catholic until I read for myself. Here is one of my favorite eye openers.

the vatican has long held a grudge against contraception, because it produces fewer catholics and give women free time to ... uh... think....

the 'sinfulness' of contraception pretty much depends on the diocese - for example during my preCana (catholic marriage prep) - southern NJ archdiocese of camden - we had progressive priests that advised us to use contraception b/c unwanted kids bring financial and emotional burdens that often result in broken homes, and preCana is all about giving you the tools to have a successful marriage.

however, across the river, folks who went to preCana at the same time I did were under the humorless thumb of cardinal krol and were told that contraception was sinful, b/c you're having sex for pleasure not procreation.

However 'sinful' is NOT the same as one of the 7 deadly sins.

Having lots of children is the way that the Catholic Church makes sure that Catholics are the majority of the world's population and ensures the continuation of the Church. Self-serving.

Mormons also follow the doctrine of having as many children as possible, Afterall, God is up in heaven having sex with his many wives to produce the spirit babies necessary to take on a body of flesh that the Mormons bring into the world. LOL
