What a great story Op. The first time someone bought my coffee in front of me in the drive through l was blown away. Good deeds really do wonders to a person receiving or giving. Here’s another story if anyone missed it.

I'm no Rockefeller or anything but I have bailed a couple of people out of a tight spot before. No strings attached.

Re: Just when you think there's not anymore good people out there.
After I left work today (I live about 30 miles from my workplace). I stopped to get gas. My card was declined.

Figured, maybe something wrong with the CC reader at the pump, so I went inside the gas station and asked for 50 on pump 11.

Guy runs my Debit card and it was declined. He tries 3 more times. So I check my banking app and see I have more than enough funds. I even show him my phone screen.

Then he tells me, try to run your debit card as credit, maybe that will work. We try that twice. Declined.

I say hey, there's a line of people behind me waiting now, take care of them. I'll try to call my bank.

Try to call the bank, the number says we have a huge call volume right now, please use our 24/7 online support via email which you can access through the app. Then hangs up on me.

I try that, send an email, and it gets kicked back saying

550 5.2.1 The user you are trying to contact is receiving mail at a rate that prevents additional messages from being delivered.

So I'm fucked. I was on empty. 30 miles away from home with a gas guzzler car. No way to get home.

I walk outside, sit in my car, try to call the bank again. Get hung up on again. It's 90 degrees outside.

Would you believe the guy who was standing behind me in line. Waiting patiently while the clerk tried to help me, running my card multiple times...

He walks up to my driver side window at the pump. Says hey bud. You seem like a good guy. I've been in need before. Take this and get some gas (tries to hand me 40 bucks).

I said thank you sir, but I have money and I couldn't do that. He tosses it in my car window. He was like a construction worker in a beat up pickup truck.

I try to give it back, he keeps walking. I say at least give me your email or phone number, so I can PayPal or Venmo you back.

He says to me. Pay it forward.

What a solid Human being. A perfect stranger. Does something like that without me even asking anything. Renewed my faith in humanity.

I plan to pay it forward to a wonderful waitress at a restaurant I go to for breakfast once in a while. She's a elderly woman who should be retired by now, but has to still work to make ends meet. I'm going to give her a 60 tip and tell her this story.

Re: Just when you think there's not anymore good people out there.
I've been on both ends of this. The hardest part is remembering to receive graciously so that you give the person helping you the same joy you feel when you are able to help someone else.

One time, on a surprisingly bitter cold day in April in Chicago, my children's father was angry..this time because he wanted to linger in a museum and they (ages 8 months to 8 years) wanted to run through and explore the exhibits. He said he was going home without us and took the car and my purse and left us, not properly dressed for the weather, with $10 emergency money I kept in my pocket because this wasn't the first time. I planned to walk to someplace we could stay warm and call my parents to come get us. I had forgotten why Chicago is the windy city!! Holy smokes, the wind nearly got the baby stroller out of my hands. The kids were all in tears and so cold, so we ducked into a burger king. While I took baby and littlest into the bathroom, the boys sat at a table and a woman working on a job application, with her worldly belongings next to her bought them fries. She told me 'Them babies was shivering and miserable. I don't know your story, but they need to warm up.' It was probably her last two dollars. I was so incredibly touched. I hope wherever she is, she has been rewarded for that day and probably all the other people she helped.

I try to pay it forward whenever I can.

(the children's father showed up and yelled at me for wasting money while we had perfectly good snacks in the car, then herded us into the car and we went back to my parents like nothing happened) It took a few years, but I managed to get on my feet and take the kids and start over, so they at least learned what it was like to live in a home where you felt safe and loved all the time.

I love these threads...as a reminder to be kind to each other.

Just a suggestion but I believe in redundancy. I've got three separate cards in my wallet I can use for purchases. A debit card from my bank, a debit card from my credit union and a credit card.

Just the other day my bank card was declined so after a few tries I grabbed the next card and the purchase went through. Same as you, I had plenty of money there.

Well, turns out it was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

I'm going to give her a 60 tip and tell her this story.

you should sort of be aware when someone offers you something in that manner it's kind of insulting to reject it so adamantly, he basically had to get in his truck and leave

it's like you are saying 'i don't want anything from YOU'
