i can't see us making it to spring. i know we have been at the slow burn doom for over 2 years and that should continue. i just can't see how the govern can kick this can down the road at all. BTW any of these minor viruses including the MP can and probably will merge with covid in due time. it's like the house is on fire, and they are throwing propane tanks at it instead of using water. i see no good outcome.

someone tell me a way out of this mess or how we keep society functioning to March. we bought 2 years thru the pandemic, but i don't see anyway for the world to make it much farther.

I have a different take on it. I think we'll make it to spring and well into the future.

It's about the ingenuity, creativity, and self reliance of we, the people.

I don't "depend" on the government for much of anything useful on a day to day basis. I don't think I'm alone in that.

Liz and I will do what we need to do, as we have to this point, to live our lives in a productive, useful, independent manner. Without "expecting" much of anything from "them", however one would like to characterize "them".

And I suspect, Jazz, that you'll be fine as well. Keep your head down, be the "gray man", and before you know it summer will be here again.

This. While Raffette and I like our creature comforts and 21st century conveniences, we don't depend on them to survive. We are easily self-reliant enough to weather any major disruption of "normal." I think most people here in this thread and on GLP in general are like this to some degree or another.

The problems will arise from those who *are* dependent on technology or the government to survive, and they comprise the majority of Americans, in my opinion. I'm talking about people who will die of thirst because they don't realize they have potable water stored in their toilet tanks. People like that will not last much past 72 hours to a week due to their dependence on others and/or technology.

At worst, they will be the panicked mob willing to kill their neighbors for a loaf of bread. At best, they will create a huge biohazard requiring a massive cleanup effort months down the road.

I will miss the internet, though. verysad

thanks for the vote of confidence. I agree that ppl can b resilient and survive. society as we knew it is a different story thou.

we already hear of cracks overseas such as the fuel/energy and power shortages. think there are more cracks here in the US than they let on. it is already taking longer to make grid repairs. wonder how Buffalo is fairing with lack of plow drivers?

the systems that hold society together are so interconnected. each relies on the others to function. like a ball of string but the strings are rubber bands. break 1 and the whole ball snaps apart. this ain't the Great depression era. ppl are spoiled nowadays with the supply chains and electric grid. ppl no longer live near farms and few have ever grown their own food. i know some will survive but a huge # won't if the systems start to break apart.

RIFF, did u watch the Armageddon movie i posted a few times? that starts as a pandemic and then slowly panic sets in. over a week or so then the power grid and water stops working.

other than the protocals that were used early on with covid, i don't see how the govern can slow things down. they threw out the old guidelines and the ppl won't follow them this time anyhow. without a lockdown, hospitals will b overwhelmed soon. without closing schools, there will b a huge surge between the holiday season and another after. not counting the revolving door syndrome.

it is a mess.

"Primarily water, several crates, and canned food. That would be enough for ten days. That's what my agency recommends… Our message is: prepare in the first place. Be prepared for possible crises, don't assume that everything will be readily available all the time," Tiesler stated, adding that residents should also purchase battery-powered radios and candles.

The shooter should have been taken off the streets last year! This is what they aren’t telling anyone. MAGA grandpa for California got a favor from the gop DA here. They should all be charged. This could have been prevented.

No doubt, SC. No matter who it is, I give no quarter. Wrong is wrong no matter who or what group is responsible. Consequences continue outward.

Sorry guys if I sound harsh. In the middle of the move and feeling like shit. Moving when you're older is one thing. Moving with "end of life" shit is a whole 'nother thing. Counting on the kids to get here tomorrow.

Thx, hon. The end goal is be over there totally by Saturday. At least, all the big, heavy stuff. That'll give us a couple of days to clean the rental. Knowing this company, we don't expect to get our deposits back, so not gonna kill ourselves over it.

I know it's a day early. I also know that "the day of" can be hectic with travel, cooking, etc.

Liz and I will be having a quiet day at home, thankful that family is safe and healthy. Thankful that we ourselves are safe and healthy.

Our best wishes that all of you who celebrate the holiday have a peaceful, satisfying day. (And that TB's move gets done without any glitches or flat tires).

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Just taking a break, but wanted to come in to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving tomorrow.

Got the truck and the kids are moving our house as we speak. I hate that I'm not in the thick of things. Now I know how my mom felt. It's hard.

Not sure when I'll be back on after today. It'll be a day or two maybe.
