There’s still over $40B in cargo on container ships waiting offshore | |

They have 88 gantry cranes and dozens of berths for cargo discharge and loading, but the are only using one berth and one set of gantry cranes at any given moment. The Longshoremen's Union has their longest waiting-for-dispatch list in decades, but the claim is made that the bottleneck is due to a labor shortage. Hundereds, evn thousands of workers wanting to come back to work for the excellent pay and benefits. The "labor shortage" excuse is complete BULLSH*T! |

I can still order silly novelty things shipped from China and some via the US to the UK in some examples on the tracker and they get here in a manner of weeks. Something doesnt add up. I'm convinced whatever shipping backlog we see is simply hoarding goods and intentional. You can get enamel pin badges but certain essential wiper blades or tyre sizes or whatever are in limited supply. Really? It's intentional. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 73612345 ![]() 07/10/2022 07:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The whole business model - of having things manufactured overseas and shipped here, is pretty much broken down. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83758184 Bring back manufacturing to the U.S. and Canada. And truck or better yet: rail the stuff around where it's needed. They need to stop talking about it and actually implement local manufacturing. Almost all that stuff was invented here in the U.S... why do other countries control it now? ![]() It's the unholy glory of capitalism. When everything revolves around money and profit people will choose the cheapest option to save a few dollars and gain as much as they can. Which often is capitalizing on other countries who's economies and labor are cheaper to produce in, even with the hassle of shipping. Fucking people are idiots. We aren't capitalists. We run a central bank planned economy. They hollowed out manufacturing by mostly: 1) Raising taxes locally and incentivizing all companies to relocate abroad via various regulations. 2) Numerous other laws passed to keep the money from being repatriated. Of course this was for companies not DIRECTLY CONTROLLED to be forced to move abroad in order to compete with CONTROLLED companies. Now everything is owned by the companies we cant name...which only exist as a vehicle for the political elite. There is nothing free market capitalist about any of this. You think the medical industry is capitalist....bwahahahahahahha. ![]() |
Pianoman User ID: 80622308 ![]() 08/15/2022 01:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm not witnessing shortages in any supply store I visit here in Phoenix Arizona, as of July 15, 2022. Auto parts are still good, groceries are still good. No local news about baby formula shortages... TV and radio ads all seem to be pushing product like air conditioners, window shades and local print ads pushing furniture. It's actually puzzling because back when this started, we were being held hostage by Toilet Paper shortages. No particular shortages are apparent here yet. |
