There is a great analogy in one of Daniel Quinn's Ishmael books about comparing human attempts at civilization to inventors trying to create flying machines before understanding the laws of aerodynamics.

The inventors would study a bird and build a contraption that had wings controlled by pedals to make them flap.

they would push this contraption to the edge of a cliff and launch it, pedaling like mad to make the wings flap.

Because there was no understanding of aerodynamics, the contraption immediately failed and began to fall. The inventor mistook this motion for flight and fooled himself into believing that, the whole time he was falling into oblivion, he was flying.

Ultimately when he came close enough to the ground he saw objects amassed there that turned out to be the wrecks of past attempts that he was about to join.


We should be close enough to see the ground at this point and anyone not making serious changes in how they meet their own needs is either blind or given up.


Taking out micro-loans to buy gas and food is a about as clueless a solution as anything I've heard.

It suggests that people can't tell which way is up, IMO.

Payday loans are nothing new. Poor people who live paycheck to paycheck sometimes have extra stuff that pops up. When that happens they get a payday loan, 7 or 14 day loan with crazy high interest. Often times it becomes a never ending cycle of loans, payoff loans, get another loan. Sucks to be poor.
