Well back in 1913 in Sweden the women looked and dressed just like the men. The fashion was God awful too. I bet nobody said Swedish girls were hot in 1913

Misery wears on people and their faces and bodies.

The whole..keep making that face and it will stay that way.. bit.

Today we know to stay out of the Sun too much, wear sunscreen and sunglasses.

Sunglasses keep you from squinting. Squinting causes wrinkles, as does the Sun.

I just looked and I have more wrinkles than I remembered.

Maybe I jinxed myself with this thread! lol

people are not maturing, lack of fat soluble vitamins, messed up hormones, etc...

If that’s what it takes to unlock the fountain of youth, so be it!

You rather age prematurely, have little to no childhood, die a bitter, old man who can’t stay in touch with the times? lol

Definitely. In the 1960's, those in their 50's and some even in their 40's looked old. No one worked out or exercised, few dyed their hair. People didn't live as long. I think this started to change in the 1970's.

People also matured earlier. They were ready to start families and jobs at 18 once they graduated from high school.

Yep white people can't take the sun and age horribly.
It's only with things like makeup plastic surgery sunscreen and sunglasses that their able to hide their aging and ugly features.

White people tend to age horribly.
Especially blondes and redheads.
Back then they didn't have stuff like makeup and plastic surgery.
Nowadays white people especially women love to hide their aging and ugly and flawed features with makeup and plastic surgery.

Re: Did People Used To Look Older?
I think it's perception. I was watching a movie with Sean Connery and he looked so old in it but in actual facy he was only 48 years old ! I said to myself that I look way younger than Connery did in that movie, but I'm 52

I think it's about perception. I view myself as being younger than my actual, maybe because of my lifestyle and nature. Connery I viewed his as looking older, maybe because the image of him in my minds eye is Sean Connery in his 70's

Great thread BTW !

Everyone looks so young and beautiful.

Then you hit menopause.
Ever so slowly you lose your
hormones, wake up one morning,
Look in the mirror and start screaming!

I haven’t stopped screaming.

I asked my dr many times for hormone
replacement prescription.
No no and no again.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80881803

That was mainly due to attire and the culture shift of the youth!

The explosion of textile plants resulting in cheap garments worldwide changed this. Before this, people wore the same few articles of clothes forever; if a button fell off or you got a tear on your trousers, your mom or wife just stitched or patched it back up. Also, because of that, everyone kinda looked the same, clothes were very similar, narrowed down to a particular look; the new school joke about how the NPCs of the past were just carbon copies of each other due limited memory/graphics in the past...

Anyway, textile plants not only produced cheaper clothing, people now became creative with it and created things to suit an individual’s identity (and make profits of them too, of course), the most susceptible and highly targeted demographic, the youth! Particularly teenagers! Remember, “teenager” was a word rarely used before 1960, it’s actually a very recent word, created somewhere around the 1920s, or close to it, during the automobile craze, but it didn’t really take off until the 60s. You were either a child or a grown-up, and adolescent or an adult, no in-between.

So of course people over 30, even some people in their mid-20s didn’t quickly latch on to crazy colorful t-shirts and jeans, they were not going to change their hairstyles, etc... they just opted for their usual brown overcoats and brown trousers along with whatever dress shoes they wore
Before the stop with shoe waxer man on the corner.

This is an insightful thread about it

I haven't watched the vid yet but has been in my feed for awhile. Love Vsauce. Very strongly thinking about getting their season subscription box.

Life was brutal and often short just 100 years ago. Children were used for cheap labor..if they were 'lucky'.

Most were cast to the streets.

Bullshit.

Children were better kept in the 1920's then they are now.(in general)

Most kids worked on the farms.
It was called 'learning to take care of yourself', something most people nowadays have no clue about.
