He didn't attack Ukraine for oil or reserves. He stated the reasons very clearly.

Mostly it was because Ukraine broke the Minsk Peace accords, had cut off water to Crimea, Was shelling the hell out of the Donbass, and because they would not promise to never join NATO... And NAZIs.

The West wanted to base missiles aimed right at Moscow from point blank range. Putin viewed this as a matter of self defense. An existential challenge.

So with 20% of his military he has largely disarmed NATO of its russian style weapons, and American/British/French made MANPADs, artillery, etc.

And economically, the sanctions on Russia have backfired, destroyed the US Petro Dollar, and created shortages and hyperinflation throughout NATO.

He did that with 20% of his military and by getting rid of his ancient weapons he needed to be rid of anyway.
