How? The sum's magnetosphere is weak. The Sun is currently passing though a region of space rich in atomic hydrogen. This atomic hydrogen reacts with the photo-sphere in what Dr. Mills calls a Brilliant Light process. It is why the atmosphere of the sun is much hotter then the surface. If the fields were stable, we would be entering a very short solar minimum that would cool the earth 0.5C. Nobody knows the answer except the earth won't be able to support life...

When the sun gets active again, our magnetic field should strengthen. I hope there are some insects and algae left by then. More UV should create more ozone, but I've also seen it claimed UV-C destroys ozone.
