Update from Igor on the prison strike.

On July 29th, Ukraine attacked the detention facility with a HIMARS missile.

193 Ukrainian prisoners were at the facility.
48 bodies were recovered.
2 more died en-route to the medical facilities.
73 Prisoners have been taken to the hospital.

If I can add a few words of analysis.

If Russia conducted this attack as a false flag, or to silence the prisoners about some sort of Geneva convention violations, they would not have left 193-50 = 143 survivors to testify, now would they?

I am no expert at identification of missile parts, but it looks like they have a bunch of missile parts there that they claim are from a HIMARS. Someone that is familiar with HIMARS rockets can verify I assume?

Why are 2 of the bodies (from what I could see) burned and charred so badly? I have no idea. Either someone lied about what is in the HIMARS warhead, or they were sitting on or near some flammables. No idea, as I was not there.

Russia launched nighttime attacks on several Ukrainian cities, Ukrainian officials said Saturday as they and Moscow blamed each other for the deaths of dozens of Ukrainian prisoners of war in a separatist-controlled area of the country’s east. The International Red Cross asked to visit the prison to make sure the wounded had proper treatment.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross have a duty to react after shelling of a prison complex in Donetsk province killed the POWs.

“It was a deliberate Russian war crime, a deliberate mass murder of Ukrainian prisoners of war,” Zelenskyy said in a video address late Friday. “There should be a clear legal recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.”

Separatist authorities and Russian officials said the attack killed 53 Ukrainian POWs and wounded another 75. Russia’s Defense Ministry on Saturday issued a list naming 48 Ukrainian fighters, their ages ranging from 20 to 62, who died in the attack; it was not clear if the ministry had revised its fatality count.

The International Committee of the Red Cross, which has organized civilian evacuations in the war and worked to monitor the treatment of POWS held by Russia and Ukraine, said it has requested access to the prison “to determine the health and condition of all the people present on-site at the time of the attack.”

Both sides alleged the attack on the prison was premeditated and intended to silence the Ukrainian prisoners and to destroy evidence, including of possible atrocities.

Russia claimed Ukraine’s military used U.S.-supplied precision rocket launchers to target the prison in Olenivka, a settlement controlled by the Moscow-backed Donetsk People’s Republic.

The Ukrainian military, however, denied making any rocket or artillery strikes in Olenivka. It accused the Russians of shelling the prison to cover up the alleged torture and execution of Ukrainians there.

The Institute for the Study of War, a think tank based in Washington, said the competing claims and limited information prevented assigning full responsibility for the attack but the “available visual evidence appears to support the Ukrainian claim more than the Russian.”

Elsewhere in eastern Ukraine, Russian rockets hit a school in Kharkiv, the country’s second-largest city, overnight, and another attack occurred an hour later, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said Saturday. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The bus station in the city of Sloviansk also was hit, according to Mayor Vadim Lyakh. Sloviansk is near the front line of fighting as Russian and separatist forces try to take full control of the Donetsk region, one of two eastern provinces that Russia has recognized as sovereign states.

In southern Ukraine, one person was killed and six injured in shelling that hit a residential area in Mykolaiv, a significant port city, the region’s administration said Saturday on Facebook.

Friday’s attack on the prison reportedly killed Ukrainian soldiers captured in May after the fall of Mariupol, a Black Sea port city where troops and the Azov Regiment of the national guard famously held out against a monthslong Russian siege.

Exactly what happened at the prison camp in Olenivka, which is controlled by the Russian-backed self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), remains unclear.

Ukraine says the site was targeted by Russia in an effort to destroy evidence of torture and killing. President Volodymyr Zelensky described the incident as a "deliberate Russian war crime."

For its part, Russia said the camp was hit by Ukrainian precision rockets.

Russia's defence ministry said the strike had been carried out with US-made Himars artillery and it accused Ukraine of a "deliberately perpetrated" provocation. The ministry produced fragments of what it said were rockets fired by the Himars system.

But Ukraine denied that any rocket or artillery strikes had been made.
An adviser to President Zelensky said the scene looked like arson, and that a missile strike would have scattered the bodies.
Ukraine's general staff of the armed forces called on the UN and the Red Cross to investigate the deaths, claiming that Russia had targeted the camp in order to cover up its treatment of POWs.

They are already being interviewed.

The BBC has also visited the site.

I wasn't there, and would not know HIMARS shrapnel from any other type of rocket.

But the video is shown of what parts they recovered.

Can anyone identify the parts?

It almost looks to me like there was no missile strike at all. POWs were moved into a building that was pre loaded with explosives.

The blast was internal and the POWs were executed.

Try addressing the facts.

Schrapnel was found that is claimed to be HIMARS shrapnel.
There is an RT interview of a surviving prisoner.
There are about 140 surviving prisoners. They will be interviewed I am sure by the BBC and RT news.

If Russia was just trying to kill all the POWs to hide a crime, they failed, because there are 140 survivors that will be talking.

Konstiantyn Velychko said he recognised the Olenivka camp in some of the videos released by Russia.

He said the buildings that Russia said was hit with the POWs in was not in the main living section of the camp but in an industrial zone not normally used to house prisoners.

He said he believed that showed Russia had moved the POWs specially into a disused area of the camp before the explosion that killed them.

Here is Konstiantyn Velychko’s (the guy cited above) story, which was published last week. He was not military but was imprisoned there at what the Russians call a “filtration camp”.

Ukraine has provided zero evidence of its assertions.

Russia has provided videos of the site, the rocket debris, and has a couple of interviews with the prisoners up already.

Be patient, or go back to CNN for your "official" propaganda.
