Brisbane is easily one of the worst cities I've visited and in the top 4 shithole cities I've lived in. They have the biggest class of scumbag realtors anywhere.

Based on some of the landlord stories I've read on this sub, you Aussies seriously need some California style tenant protection laws. This scenario would be both a crime (breaking and entering at a minimum) and result in a winner of a civil lawsuit under California (or even NY) law. When you have a leasehold in CA, you are, with some limited exceptions for emergency maintenance or state-mandated inspections, the "owner" of that property for the duration of the leasehold. You can even make modifications or improvements to the property as long as you revert them upon leaving or have the landlord agree to them. There is absolutely no unilateral right of entry by the landlord. Your system seems insane in allowing random inspections etc.

Had the EXACT same thing happen when I lived in a house in college with four others. I was in the bathroom, on the toilet, and the agent was trying to get into the bathroom and the lock is rather flimsy so they decided to really push it and it flied open and ta-da.

They claimed they called us three times, so I called them to complain and they claimed they had the wrong number on file. They shared the number and it was one none of the housemates had ever had, so they probably made it up to get them off the hook. I was too tired to fight it, and I'm sure they counted on that
