Hey OP. I, too have been around since the beginning of this forum. I miss the intelligent discussions.

nothing even close to q = 1 is being done here. at this point a fusion system with a q = 1 would be seen as a miracle and q = 1 is useless.

the record is q = 0.7 so far. iter (international thermonuclear experimental reactor) is supposed to be q = 10, my guess is it will be "finished" years late and wont be able to sustain due to neutron flux and heat gradient issues and will at best be q = 5.

I wouldn't count on limitless free energy! Scarcity is what allows for power accumulation in industry and government, so it won't be limitless and it won't be free - for us.

It's interesting and a breakthrough, so now we go from basic science to engineering. We need to engineer something that's safe, repeatable, economical, and will satisfy the ecoterrists.

This is just like every few years they roll out an article that scientists have "discovered a pill that will let you live to be 200 years old!" and then it drops off into the abyss only to brought back out a couple years later.

The elites want to live to be 200, they don't want you to live to be 200. About 50 to 60 is good for us as they don't want us to collect our pensions and retirements and hog up resources.

They will get the technology and medical advancements and benefit from them, they will ensure we don't.

They make us all pay for accessing the internet by forcing the masses accept that “oversight, management and maintenance” are required or else it would result in chaos. This tricks everyone into accepting that a cost is understandable.

They will do the same thing with free energy. They will make it appear as if getting the energy to our homes requires money to provide, and additional fees for the same maintenance, management, and oversight.

This is the same method used every time something comes along that would benefit the entire planet. If they can not apply these fees and costs they burry the tech and use it for their own personal private use.

This is how I believe things will unfold. Either that or the big utility companies will tie up free energy in so many legal issues that the world won’t be introduced to free energy until our grand children have grandchildren. By that point big utility will be the ones who are in control of the free energy and the ones who are making the profits from it.

The leaders of our leaders (ALL OF THEM) play for the same team. Theirs.

As long as the mindset of “it’s not personal, it’s business” remains foremost in their minds, the world population will remain at their mercy and business driven individuals never or very rarely make room for mercy.

I'm guessing that they haven't developed suitcase size Fusion electrical generators yet, which will fit under the stairs or in the trunk of the car.

It isn't as if everyone will soon be getting a fusion device for their garage or basement. Fusion is just another source of heat just like coal, natural gas or nuclear fission. The heat is used to boil water into steam which then powers a steam turbine generator.
This steam cycle is notoriously inefficient and requires a beaucoup amount of boilers or reactor vessels, condensers, pipes, valves, pumps and sensors in order to function. All of it requires the manufacture/installation of the components, human supervision and maintenance (paid workers) so it doesn't end up being free by any means. You won't have one of these steam based electrical generating systems at your house regardless of where the heat comes from. You don't have that now and fusion isn't going to bring it to you.
What you can have at your house is solar panels and batteries which looks more like the future of electrical generation than a bunch of pie in the sky that needs a complicated steam loop to function.
Solar panels and batteries are about as free as energy is going to be for the foreseeable future. We need to stop pursuing technology that requires boiling water into steam to generate electricity.
