It never made it to its original listed destination of Lebanon. Instead, on Tuesday The Associated Press has revealed in a bit of an ironic twist: "The first shipment of grain to leave Ukraine under a wartime deal appears to have ended up in Syria — even as Damascus remains a close ally of Moscow, satellite images analyzed Tuesday by The Associated Press show." But now perhaps something did go "wrong" from the perspective of the West, as the AP underscores of the latest development, "But its arrival in Syria's port of Tartus shows how complicated and murky international trade and shipping can be. Syria has already received Ukrainian grain taken from Russian-occupied territory amid Moscow’s war on Kyiv." Satellite images posted by Planet Labs PBC appear to show the vessel at Tartus by Monday morning, next to the port's grain silos. What's more is that the vessel's operators appear cognizant of the international sanctions currently in place on Syria and the Assad government,  PLATA BITCHEZZZZZZ The Rolling Stones said it best... Syria is not exactly an ally of Russia. Russia has had its fair share of Islamic related terror incidents. They have cooperated extensively with the US on terror related intel and make no mistake they have been in Syria to control some of the terror issues in Chechnya. True they do hold relations with Assad closer than we do but only to end terror incidents in Russia. Russia has cooperated on many of our operations inside Syria but publicly have different goals with Assad than the US. Are relations with Israel and Egypt dictate many of our public relations with Assad. If he was more accommodating to issues related to Israel it would be very different as Assad protects Christian communities in Syria and is opposed to the more radical terror groups in ME as he is a different brand of Muslim than the Saudis and the terror groups. But politically it is difficult for him to publicly align with any Westerners. And just the basic border issues with Israel lead him to oppose. And because groups that oppose him but lack enough power to oust him have agreements to use Syrian sites to strike Israel which is Israel main problem with him. Whoever paid for the grain will get it and i am sure there was aggressive pressure from Syria, Turkey and others on Putin to allow the deliveries as people are starving. Starving people have ways of toppling regimes so important to Syria and others around the globe that Putins has at least working relations with |
