It means they are living a fancy lifestyle, prioritizing daily life over paying down debts. On the other hand, if they used all that fancy income and paid off their loans, their credit scores would tank, so maybe they are protecting their credit by paying their loans slowly.

I was given debt forgiveness of 5k years ago.

I had to pay taxes on that 5k as if it were income.

I owe ~9.2k from my MBA and it's been nice not paying it for a few years.

Sucks I made 180k last year and will make about the same this year, so 99.99999% chance I won't be included.

Oh well, better karma to pay it back, I guess.

I expect a reimbursement for my tuition if that's the case....Worked my ass off to pay tuition and pay my loans with 2 young kids....I also took on a mortgage, who do I need to cry to get that forgiven as well???

The truth is that the govt could just write off the bad student debt and it would not be a drop in the bucket compared to the trillions upon trillions the Fed has already printed in bailing out everybody and all the unfunded/underfunded programs already cratering.

The banks however have all this money marked a green on their books, and want to realize those loans for their board of investors. It's similar to the housing market with subprimes. Much ado about nothing if you are not a banker. We all really know the banks own DC and want to pass their losses onto tax payers like they did with the subprime collapse or any other failure, really. China's central bank writes these loans off all the time, and it is one of the reasons why they are dominating in foreign investment in places like Africa and the rest of the world. People don't understand how our system works and it is really the tail wagging the dog because the govt has not control over the money supply, -- the banks do.

The worthless universities that provided the useless educations should be the ones paying up. Using their hundreds of billions of dollars in endowments. Not tax payers

The student loan are the "Toxic assets" of this generation.

The problem is that unlike the housing market - there is really is absolutely no "asset" when the financial instrument smoke screen is blown away.

Fuck them and their 7-8-9% or more interest rate. We could get 2.5% used car rates. Loans should be no more than that. Our kids should be treated like "most favored client" of the FED and the government puppets. But they are not. They are raping our kids financially.

Absolutely untrue because the loans can’t be discharged. Because they were forced to issue them to unworthy creditors they can’t be discharged and will eventually be paid even if it’s a death benefit or SS check.

It is NOT like toxic assets they are very secured and the banks are not hurting
