Stevie Ray vaughan better than Hendrix?

Like comparing apples and oranges. Hendrix wrote music… new music. Stevie for the most part covered other songs and put them into his style. Even his style though was a cover of Albert King. The best thing about Stevie besides his manic speed on guitar was the tone of his voice. That’s the only thing that was his.

I was wondering when Eddie would make it into this thread. He is right up there with the other 2 thread subjects

I watched Stevie take the stage at Antone's once. He had just pulled down most of a fifth, but when his boot hit the stage you could see the trance like change come over him. That zone he went into to play was always much stronger than any liquor. I came along too late to know Jimi and his era. So due to growing up in the Austin scene as the music exploded. I have to "vote" for the man I once met.

Hendrix was a good guitar player, an innovator, and a great songwriter.

Vaughn was technically a better player.

Having said that I think this guy is a better guitar player than both of the above:

I've heard Hendrix playing around in the studio and the power was incredible.

Hard to compare really. Different styles and music. Both very good.

Two uber talented musical giants who served in two different eras of music history. SRV stood on Jimi's shoulders.

Was blessed to have seen SRV in person but never had the chance to see Hendrix unfortunately.

If Stevie were alive, he would not only say Hendrix, but that there would never be a "Stevie" if it weren't for Jimi. That being said, they are both great in their own ways...

You're both forgetting to include how bad his cocaine habit was. Supposedly he snorted so much cola he ripped a hole through his nose so he would start putting it in his shots of whiskey and downing it that way, makes him even more of a legend!

Sums it up, Hendrix was a far superior writer, but Vaughan was assuredly a virtuoso
