Hendrix was a innovator, and Stevie was an imitator. While I love SRV, and thought he was brilliant on the guitar, he didn't realign the industry like Hendrix. Lisyen to all of the greats, they'll tell you that Hexdrix changed it all... just like EVH. I was wondering when Eddie would make it into this thread. He is right up there with the other 2 thread subjects It's hard not to inject the man that shaped the 80's into this conversation. But, even Eddie gave credit to Hendrix. You might even make a case for Randy Rhodes in this conversation, but he was taken too soon to know the full impact. I feel like SRV had more of a cult following back when he was alive, as the record industry had moved on from the time of the blues he was doing. Eric Clapton was considered to be the blues master at the time, and Stevie struggled with getting traction. This was a battle that stevie and his brother Jimmy fought over. I loved listening to SRV, and almost went to see him at his last concert... wish I would have. But, Hendrix was a master innovator who's time was cut too short. First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. ~ Mahatma Gandhi "Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever." ~ George Orwell "The exact level of tyranny that you're going to live under, is the level of tyranny you put up with." ~Thomas Jefferson "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent. ~ Thomas Jefferson |
