Many people, particularly people of a GLP mindset, CRAVE going back to those times you talk about. Alas the world has changed and it will never change back. Innocence was lost, actually lost a bit before your time. 1963, 1964, 1967, 1968, and 1970 was when the US Government became a full on LYING MACHINE. After 1970 it was cast in stone, the old world was DEAD and what was there was changing and changing rapidly. With 1970 it became clear to many that what happened in 1963 and 1964, and wasn't recognized at the time for what they were, WERE the markers of the end of the world as we knew it and had existed in the US since the end of the Civil War. I used to hitch hike back in the 70's too, though my trips were shorter. Never had any fears about it and always caught a ride within minutes of putting my thumb out. Always got to where I wanted to go, usually within just a few minutes of when I would have gotten there if I had been driving my own car. Met some great people and had some great conversations during those rides. Glad you survived the 70's. Sadly now we are in nearly full on police state brought about by Bush /Cheney /big government with their pre-written and totally falsely labeled "Patriot Act" back in 2001. The old United States is gone ... and never to be reclaimed. |

It likely was never actually a safe practice for females, but was a highly popular means of transport for girls in the hippy era." [link to flashbak.com (secure)] One of the things that crosses my mind from during that time were the "smoke in's" that you could find at many interstate off ramps(mostly in the west). Just a group of people sitting around smoking ALOT of pot. "People are stupid;they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true" |
