Started in 92. I was about 8 and my Dad was stationed at Homestead AFB. The eye of Andrew went right over home. We saw gusts of 220-230mph. I remember seeing my roof rip off and hearing our windows shatter. The sound is what is the worst. After that experience I was both mesmerized and terrified by hurricanes. Fast forward 30 years and 9 more hurricanes and now if its a cat 1 or 2 and maybe a low 3, I'm good. But if its a cat 4 and obviously a 5, I get a little nervous and remember Aug of 1992. No telling what is going on here. Also, Florida has many many residents who are new and never been in a hurricane. The last major hurricanes were way back in 05. |
