life will go on without it just fine.
In fact, probably much better too.

Life was fine before it came into existence.

So maybe Russia can help all you go to internet rehab???

The next pandemic could very well be internet shutdown.
We are in a stupid time. If what we are living through happened 20 years ago, how would it be portrayed favorably?

Dumb thread. Obviously nobody NEEDS it. But it makes life more convenient in countless ways. You probably don't need half the stuff in your home but you're not going to throw it away.

Re: nobody needs the internet. . . .NOBODY...you just think you need it....(like a cocaine addict)
Consequences of internet going full off nowadays:
- Financial: almost everything regarding finances is now through internet. Transfer, payments, purchases, market, everything. If internet goes off, we will be set back about 30 years in this regard. Your cards will be useless, basically everyone will have to go withdraw cash on an ATM. But guess what? For an ATM to dispense cash, it needs to check your bank account balance, which is, guess what, through the internet. So the only way to withdraw some cash is go personally to your bank and even so it might be possible this wouldn't work. You see, all records of your account are online, meaning, your local branch might not have access to your balance, making even this option non-viable.
- Communication: Telephony nowadays is almost 100% reliant on the internet. VOIP services are very common in many places and cell towers rely on the internet for synchronization. This means, that no phone calls for you or anybody else. Communications via internet also play a huge part on electric and water systems, so chances are that without internet, power and water might not work properly, if at all.

Its not as if we, as humans, need it. But its one of the pinnacles that hold life as we know it today. So, would it be TEOTWAWKI? In a few ways, yes. Will we survive? Most likely, yeah, but life will be more like it was back in the 50's and 60's regarding infrastructure, but with tons of people totally unsuitable to live like this.

great post
Few will listen,
Of the few who listen, fewer still will understand,
Understanding does not mean believe,
Of the handful who believe, most may not know what to do,
Those who even know, how many will actually do ?
And the rare ones who have done it.......
Need not listen to you anymore.

Life wasn't fine before, it was more difficult.

We don't live in the 1990's any more.
The old infrastructure has gone.

Yes, we might find out the hard way.

Well I was fine without it. Didn't come out until I was around 30. It would be hard to adjust to life without it, but so many of us remember when it wasn't a thing.

Actually the internet is a force multiplier for me......I'm self employed and the internet made me waaaaaay more profitable than the old way.....everything from research to billing......I use to tote around 6 milk crates of technical manuals in my car that I can access with my phone now.....I have a network of other techs that I can collaborate with on a tough job.....I can estimate a job, send a proposal, and order materials on site.....it tripled my earning potential....

BUT I don't have a single social media account......go figure....

I got addicted to the internet for a while
I was actually paid on YouTube fairly well for about 6 months. I was constantly at my computer. I closed all my social media accounts, packed up my computer and forced a detox on myself. It's the best thing I've done for myself in a really long time

The internet itself was overall a good thing... it's the system that surrounds it and it's priorities that screwed up that good thing.... like it does everything else.

again. it's about humanities' priorities not isms.

What is and has always been the king priority whether people want to admit it or not?

I mean, I lived the first 8 years of my life without a computer and 16 years without a cell phone. I made it just fine.

We're left with surveillance that they call the internet.
