I was wrong about this. People are dumb by choice. Quoting: MaybeTrollingU Most people are busy living their lives. They put their efforts into things that matter to them on an immediate basis. They may drive a care or use a computer, but they don't need to know how they work, or how to fix them so they don't bother learning these things. The internet is one of those things that is also taken for granted and most people are unaware of how pervasive it has become. They are also correct in that things can be done without the internet as they were alive when that was true. That isn't the same thing as saying that the loss of the internet wouldn't be a big deal which some have argued. It would be a disaster. |

Stores just don't stock many of the things I want to buy. There aren't even any computer stores around anymore that stock things like Synology media servers. In pretty sure I wouldn't find a store selling thermal imaging scopes in town. And if there were stores selling these things, they would be charging twice as much. |

That's what Putin has been doing with Polonium tea and window suicides in the Kremlin. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 84181513 We're left with surveillance that they call the internet. The internet actually died when it went form being many independent sites and online communities that had their own integrated chat to being consolidated into the twitter/facebook sphere. Meta and corporations commercializing the net killed it, the click began to drive the content; the tail wagging the dog. Things were a lot more organic and grass root back in the day. Yea, that's true. It's gone and there's no bringing it back. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 31050257 United States 10/04/2022 04:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Practically nobody can survive today if the internet went down for a very long time because everything runs on it: your phone system (whether mobile or landline), water and electricity systems, food production and distribution, all financial systems, gasoline delivery systems, transportation systems, you name it. All hinge on internet-based networks and communication in some form or another. People tend to think only in terms of surfing the net and playing youtube videos or video games. But that's just a tiny fraction of internet usage. Literally everything goes down when the internet goes down. I'm talking about down completely and across the board. That's why a major cyber attack or EMP is so dangerous and would result in massive deaths. |

This thread shows how much people are unaware of the world they live in. This only tells me that if things go down for real and don't come back, the pile of corpses in big cities will be higher than most skyscrapers. And we are talking about us, conspiracy theorists that are supposed to have a better grasp of the extent of things. What to say about the average Joe, swiping right on Tinder, posting smiley faces on twatter... And these are the majority of people. We live in such a dichotomic world. The compendium of all knowledge on the palm of your hand and people are more idiotic than ever. Back in the 90's I used to think that most people were dumb because they didn't have access to much information. I was wrong about this. People are dumb by choice. Quoting: MaybeTrollingU This. |
