The ones that "just want a better life" can and generally do it legally. My wife is Colombian and we decided to live here, so I've done everything correctly and am a legal immigrant.

But speaking from the perspective of an immigrant I can say many don't do it that way. I know several americans and europeans living here illegally because their background prevents them from doing it legally.

Some are wife beaters, others are pedophiles, drug addicts, or various other types of criminal. At least one of the above is in all catagories, these aren't guys that just want a better life and many are on the run from the law where they came from.
