Ricky Gervais
If any of our GLP family members knows or can send this message to Ricky Gervais it would make me and my family immensely happy.

My dad who is 87 years old has dementia.

It has progressed so far and fast that he doesn't remember much and I fear it's not long until he will not recognize me.

If it wasn't for that Ricky Gervais show where his father had dementia and how he dealt with it, I think I couldn't handle it.

My Pop asked me the same question 5x times.

Although it breaks my heart that the same man who taught me to rebuild a Chevy 350, build a home addition or replace and solder in a new diode in a stereo can't remember I'm married and live 600 miles away.

Please help me thank Mr. Gervais

I'm not Ricky G, but my Dad had substantial brain damage from a series of strokes in his last years. We managed to keep him home until the final fortnight that he spent in hospital.

I found I could still somewhat communicate with him to the very end even though he could barely speak beyond "yes" and "no".

I kind of used multiple choice type questions in relation to shared experiences we had e.g a fishing trip, where I would ask how much did that big fish weigh that he landed, 20 lbs? 30 lbs? 40 lbs? and he would enthusiastically nod and say "yes"] [it indeed was 40 lbs] and he really seemed to enjoy those short conversations because pleasant long term memories and not having to strain too much to call up memories, I would describe the boat, it's color, the motor etc.

With a bit of practice you can maybe tap into some those long term shared memories that might remain, there might well be some snapshot type memories you can prompt, scenarios that you know something about already.

My Mum could still somewhat talk with him, but she couldn't talk with him the way I could.

Re: Ricky Gervais
He used to have a periscope live show he would do before periscope went down. Only about 1500-2000 people would watch it and you could put some comments in there and he would respond to good ones. I think it’s on Twitter live now only but I would give it a shot and see when his next stream is. He was pretty active on there. It was pretty easy for good comments like yours to get noticed.
