Green or Black? I just got a liter of black for $14.99 and considered that a decent price hereabouts. Two years ago I could get the same bottle for $11.99.
Before I retired 12 years ago, I bought a stainless steel distiller to try my hand at basic chemistry... for the same purpose you mentioned. But after doing a few "runs" I got burned out on the whole process and gave the equipment away to a hopefully more focused friend.

Bought two 1.75l bottles each of Gin, Vodka, Rum and Bourbon [all bottom shelf stuff, but it was still drinkable if there was nothing else!] and just now have used up the last of that stock. But at my age [72] it no longer takes me 4 drinks to pass out and I figure a single one of some decent whiskey will take care of my mood very nicely. That and my greenhouse, that is!
