Re: windows 10/11 automatically deleting files and links
be warned! latest win10 update and win11 are deleting files and bookmarks "it thinks you don't need"

The main culprit for recent issues with files being deleted lies with a relatively new feature to Windows, Storage Save. This feature is designed to automatically clear unwanted files to free up your storage space.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76396687

What a joke, the bloatware that is Windows and the O/S starts deleting users files.

Gigabytes can be removed from the O/S of unnecessary languages useless apps driver files, log files, event logs, anti virus signature files, installer files, service pack files, the list is endless.

Still when you do an SFC (system File Check) and the O?S detects a corrupt file, it sometimes fails t replace the bad file.

Even a monthly update can be gigabytes in size and the save an undo copy.

Microsoft Windows is clearly spaghetti code that is totally out of control

Re: windows 10/11 automatically deleting files and links
This sounds like the current state of big tech. iOS will try to suggest unused apps and such to delete, but at least it doesn’t do it automatically. Google Drive has been said to delete files without prompting, particularly controversial videos and such.

Eventually, I want to run a home-based cloud and my own media server. I started playing around with Nextcloud but had trouble finding instructions for my version of CentOS. But I’m also a webserver newbie, so maybe it’s just dumbness on my part. Like I just need to know the proper syntax for commands or something.

(As for k e y gen files triggering antivirus, sometimes that’s just because of how those files work, they can look malicious but (usually) aren’t. But I assume most who have those kinds of files would know that and know the potential risks.)

An external hard drive dedicated to back up all your imporant stuff on a weekly/ monthly basis works really well when having to deal with 10/11. A thumbdrive for smaller stuff

While I'm the farthest thing from a Windows fan, I do have to deal with it as I work in the industry, and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that this is NOT true.

Windows isn't deleting things it "thinks you don't need." Windows doesn't magially disappear your files, or determine what happens to your browser favourites.

Now, if you have pirated files and you have a virus / internet protection suite that determines that these things are malicious or dangerous (which they often are) it will either quarantine or delete them, depending on your settings.

Please, learn to use your computer before trying to make others believe things that aren't true.

After i discovered, with this tool what shit you have to turn off to be less spied on, i switched to linux anyway.

Install it, and look for yourself.
It also makes your windows pc faster without all that crap turned on.

Had a directory full of GLP type stuff - the title of the directory was :called : Electronic torture, Electromagnetic torture, Microwave torture, Electronic murder, Electromagnetic murder, Microwave murder, Organized murder, Cooked alive, Electronic mind control, Brain zapping_files. had hundreds of files in there.

5 or so years ago it was empty except for 1 file called pixel.gif
This is on Windows 7.

It has to be intentional.

Everyone loves the Windows 7 user interface.
XP is a close second.
Microsoft insists on coping apple OS.

Microsoft keeps trying to remove the start menu and the control panel but the users base won't let them.

Microsoft ignores the buggy uninstall for 25 years.

If only IBM would push RedHat with developers and OEMs
We could be forever done with Microsoft.

yes. it sucks. mainly because they keep breaking things more than fixing in their updates lately. That being said, from my understanding and experience, all you have to do is make sure "storage sense" is turned off in settings. that's it. no problem. it's literally just a switch you can turn off. so. not sure why OP is freakin out but okay. fair enough. calm down. they haven't gone full 1984 yet lol. yet.
