When the power company's electricians come to repair the damaged lines, you will be putting them in danger of being electricuted by whatever power source you hookup to your home without a cut off switch from mains power.

Mains power switches can be made or bought.

Only the bought switches that are properly installed by the LICENCED electrician will be covered under your home insurance.

The switches are about 500 dollars and the install would be about 150.

Doing this requires a great deal of modifications to your homes service center including a lockout device (preventing current from leaving your house and entering the grid possibly injuring the lineman trying to restore service in an outage). Additionally the charger doesn’t work in reverse you need additional components like an inverter and a current management system (so your car doesn’t explode in the garage) and more than likely you need to “ unlock “ the feature in your car probably by paying more or producing an electrician certification which I’m sure is many thousands of dollars…

These companies get away with saying this crap because many of them (like the ford lightning) have a built in inverter and you can “ plug “ an extension cord into it and power say your fridge and or a tv or something in an outage. But it’s maybe 1500 watts tops will never power the whole house and not designed to. They just show on the commercials hey look use your car as a battery in a power outage. Well. Yeah. Sorta…. Run a cord out the window and keep your fridge going few small things but it’s missleading to make people think it magically powers your whole house especially considering most people only have mode one chargers at home.
