They had one of the best records in baseball (behind my Dodgers of course) and the Phillies barely squeaked in. How the hell is this guy getting 7.5 to 1 odds. I wouldn't even think the odds would be that high for the phillies to win.

Did he place the bet at the beginning of the season or something?

He does it every year, so it's very likely the bet was placed at that time.

i worked in the casino industry during the 49ers heyday with joe montana.


there was an older dude from SF that would come to town on weekends a plunk at least $100,000 on the niners and then watch from the sports book lounge. that was a pretty tense environment at times.

on a couple of occasions i have bet $500 on single hands of blackjack...but only after i was a couple grand up and playing with house money. it was a very weird feeling...not exactly pleasant but exciting...like falling or flying.

How do you get 7.5 to 1 odds for Astros to win? Maybe if the best was placed before the season started, but they were the favorites to win the series from later in the season.

I know some people that had bets on the Phillies to win the NL at 40 to 1 odds. They fell to 7 or 8 games under .500 after about 50 games and were huge value then. All about the timing.

A couple of years ago I had been near the 610 loop and I-45 in Houston and i got stuck in a massive traffic backup. So I decide to hop through parking lots to try to get up to a clear road.

Find myself cutting through the back of one of his furniture stores and I get about halfway through the back and a door fly’s open and this skinny old guy comes running… literally… out flinging his arms, screaming at me about something and pointing back to where I had just been.

I just kept on going and got on thru.

We were watching TV later that day and there he was…. Mattress Mack… on the news. And I thought he was the janitor.

Wish I would have stopped…. I could of had a good story about getting chewed out by mattress Mack himself.
