Jones is a wildcard who despite his histrionic and egocentric character, actually believes that what he is doing is for the good of mankind. He drinks his own cool aid and sometimes trusts his informants more than he should, but he is a well-educated individual who is aware of how the machinery of the deep state really works.

However, as of the last few years, I believe that we cannot trust him anymore. He's under constant threat from deep state plots to bankrupt or assassinate him and his family (the Sandy Hook damages being used as leverage), and this has likely resulted in Jones' forced cooperation under such an immense threat. Think about what an honest man would do to protect the lives and livelihoods of his family. Imagine what horrible things you'd be willing to do if someone was pointing a gun (literally or financially) at the people you love. Alex is a good man, but he is compromised, through no fault of his own.
