Re: WTAF? Reality gone weird. VR ‘Headset That Kills the User If They Die in the Game’.
I have seen Sword Art Online. A big part of the storyline is the players did not know the whole "your headset kills you if you die in the game". They were playing what was supposed to be a normal video game. The creator of the game was in the game with them.

People outside the game did not know what was happening to the people inside the game. They only knew they couldn't disconnect anyone from the game without killing them and sometimes people just died.

So, the people outside the game didn't know who to punish. Because other game developers who were also victims, not perps, were stuck in the game as well.

The guy in the game did not care about the legality or morality of what he was doing.

But, the people who weren't stuck in the game and didn't even do anything wrong were sued out of business.

There were traps in the game that would kill people, too.

It is a good anime, but damn. It is sick someone would try to make this even as "office art".

Also, you don't get to play as a character. You have to play as yourself. So, you have to be in athletic AND very good at games. You can't improve your physical stats because irl, you are in a coma.

That the guy is so cavalier about the nature of this is bothersome.

I know folks get hardcore into many of these games/stories, but as others posited, the ramifications of this device are staggering.

Luckey Palmer is a fake name and that "actor" didn't invent anything. There were simliar VR headsets on the market in the 90s, i even remember one being on the show 3rd Rock From The Sun around 99/2000.

Coming from Vice it's surely a BS story, HOWEVER, it may be them telling us something without directly telling us...

This idea is straight out of William Gibson's novels - I think he is a spook tasked with presenting things in advance to make them more palatable when they are publicly released decades later.

Now this is definitely plausible.

I really do feeling that this a Black Mirror episode in the making.

We slowly drift into sci-fi future present.

My dude,

It's a fictitious one-off for a tribute to some stupid ANIME show.

We're all aware of how technology is going and how concerning thing will become, but this isn't a real story.

This is literally an art piece. One that you or I don't understand, but that's really all it is.

If you want to direct your anxieties in a more relevant fashion, perhaps focus on C.B.D.C. and digital identities?

There were headsets that killed people when they died in the game? What game? Or are just trying to say VR headsets existed because i thought most people knew that. But, maybe not.

Or are you trying to say there was a storyline similar to SAO on 3rd Rock back in the day?

Yes, the guy's name in the Vice story sounds fake. But, what is the purpose of a fake story like this at this time?

I can tell you for some reason, i saw a lot of VR ads yesterday for some reason. So, i guess headsets (that just play games are going to be a Christmas item thus year).

Personally, zero desire to play VR, so i am not searching it.

Broh, nobody freaking out but those telling folks to not freak out.

Guy states it’sa one off attempt to recreate an idea from a game guy likes.

Plainly stated he’s managed to create a way to kill the wearer, but since there’s no way to test it, or provide control over the qualifications for administering the kill shot, he’s not gonna try it out.

It’s still a work in progress.

Give it time Edison.

How’s that cell phone treating yah?

Ask your parents how that managed.

A lot of things are presented in advance on purpose. So, the WG angle is interesting.

I can't really get into the idea of VR. I mean just regular old VR that doesn't directly kill. Idk.. i guess too much computery stuff too close to me. Ick.

THERE IS AN ANIME SHOW JUST LIKE THAT WHERE THE KID DIES AND THEY ARE STUCK IN THE VIDEO GAME. ITS CALLED HACK SIGN.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA HAD THE SAME SHOW CALLED "CAPRICA" WHICH INTRODUCED HOW CYLONS WERE CREATED WHEN SOMEONE DIED WEARING THE VR HEADSET AND HAVE THEIR MIND STUCK IN THE MACHINE. THERE MIND OR SOUL WAS TRANSFERED TO A CYLON ROBOT.

So a guy named Luckey designs a VR video game that kills the user if you die in the game. Okay. I'm going back to the Trudeau Drag Race Thread.

Maybe the hint is that they have added another layer to how they're fucking with us:

Animal Farm and 1984
Brave New World
Whatever William Gibson book/story has a similar concept as SAO.

I don't think we'll literally have to wear a headset, but they still have people wearing masks so who knows.

Re: WTAF? Reality gone weird. VR ‘Headset That Kills the User If They Die in the Game’.
The world took one more step in a strange and bothersome direction.

Palmer Luckey, defense contractor and the father of modern virtual reality, has created a VR headset that will kill the user if they die in the game they’re playing. He did this to commemorate the anime, Sword Art Online. Luckey is the founder of Oculus, a company he sold to Facebook in 2014 for $2 billion. This is the technology that Mark Zuckerberg rebranded as the foundation for Meta.

Anyone catch the part about all the ties to defense contractors?

Or like that scene in, “The Last Boy Scout”, where the wide receiver guy at the beginning of the movie pulls a pistol and starts shooting other players as he’s heading for the end zone.

New meaning to the run ‘n’ gun offense.
