The field of view is very narrow so the odds are not great that it will happen to fly by a naked eye bright star as it crosses the sky, but it happened to do so in my latest video. Quoting: Astromut This was tracked with my SatTraker software, and I just released V13, which includes handling for multi-satellite TLE files, TLE file searching and compatibility with PlaneWave L series mounts! I love it when you talk dirty. Any idea what star that was? It all went so fast I’m guessing no. Your imagery is really good, you sure are giving the guys on Haleakala a run for their money. Had it out after the sky cleared up last Saturday and every night since, what a cool tool. It was all moonlight here for the last few days. Can't wait to get it out to the camper and put it to work. My last telescope was a second hand store find and although cool at the time nothing like this. The kids love it! Thanks for posting these. I've tracked the iss online and shown the kids it passing but this is awesome! Very nicely done! |

Astromut (OP) Senior Forum Moderator 11/10/2022 08:54 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Op if we are such mortal enemies with Russia why do we still work in cooperation with them re:ISS? Quoting: StellaBlue Even this mutual project is threatened by the level of current hostilities. A cosmonaut did a seat swap to fly on SpaceX Crew 5 but only after a lot of feet dragging. Until the SpaceX Crew Dragon flew, Russia kept threatening to cut off our access buying seats on Soyuz. Even after it flew, the head of the Russian space agency tried to kiss Putin's ass by suggesting he would stop American rockets from flying by no longer selling us Russian rocket engines. Atlas V depends on those engines as does the Starliner capsule, but SpaceX builds their own engines. Rogozin famously said "let the Americans fly on something other than our engines, their broomsticks or something." At the next SpaceX launch, the SpaceX announcer poked back saying that it was time to light America's Broomstick of freedom. Russia has been very cavalier about the safety of ISS, even though their cosmonauts are also on it. They put the station into a dangerous spin by accident when some thrusters were stuck open after Nauka docked with ISS recently. Even worse, in a show of aggression, they demonstrated their ability to shoot down satellites by attacking one of their own old satellites with a missile. The resulting debris is still in orbit at about the same altitude of ISS, causing it to have to do debris avoidance maneuvers to this day and significantly increasing the risk that there will eventually be a catastrophic collision. They want out of ISS but they also realize they don't have the funding to do anything else with their cosmonauts right now so they threaten to pull out of the program and endanger it for everyone. |
