Hey y’all! CB Radio Dawg here…… We need sum cheer don’t y’all’s think? Well im bringing back my truck stop stories from the 80s and 90s. I shared a few years ago regularly but now im bringing back the old truck stop stories. They’re action packed and some are dramatic. Back in the 80s and 90s truck stops were country club like settings, where the drivers got along, the staff at the truck stop got along, the truck stops had billard rooms, arcade rooms, barbershop, dentists, coffee shops and restaurants, a chapel, motels connected to them and live bands Friday nights after a long work week on the highway. They were a home away from home. I had a crew and our layovers always started early Friday afternoons until Monday morning, and we would camp out at the truck stop over the weekend every other week. Now truckstops are nothing but places to fuel up and grab a quick bite. Truckers no longer get along. They are in a constant state of battle, the staff is rude. I miss the good old days of truckin. Truckin suck these days. But everything in the world is a worse version of what once was. Before I start sharing my stories in detail starting tomorrow let me show you a quick rundown of what a weekend at the old truck stop was like.
I would arrive at the truck stop Friday afternoon around 2 pm finishing a week on the highway. I would head inside the truck stop and grab a shower. I would have lunch/dinner with a couple buddies that finished their week. I would head back to my rig for a nap. I would go back inside the truck stop for a cup of coffee around 6:30, then have dinner with all my buddies who were all packed in the truck stop. We would play sum billiards like poop and darts, and arcade games, then the live band would show up around 9pm amd perform until 11:30.
After the concert we would play pool again and shoot the crap before heading back to our rigs and calling it a night. Sometimes i would rent a room at the motel in the truck stop. Saturdays were eventful also, and sundays we went to the chapel. Those days were action packed and I look forward to sharing my experiences at the old truck stop. Stay Tuned!
