Which Song(s) Do You Remember as a Young Child That Still Take You Back to That Happy Place in Time After All These Years?

Here is another from me, my mum was always guaranteed to play this one on her drink nights with dad when I was young a boy. I must have heard it one hundred times before I turned 10. And yeah, it really is a great original ballad from a 'real' and 'talented' original woman, all those years ago.

Probably 1976 or thereabouts, driving out to the beach at Point Pelee. Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot was on the radio. I don't know why I remember that. That was back in the days when the Dairy Freez was still down the road from the park gate. My parents never had any money. We rarely ever stopped there.

There are many songs I can (and ultimately will) add to this thread. I am a Rock guy at heart (mostly 90's and early 2000's) with what i grew up with courtesy of my Aunty and Uncle who raised me from the age of 12. and I guess this next one is included in that category, albeit, in the power ballad category. This is by far my favourite Meatloaf and definitely in my all-time top 20. And once again I can thank my Mum for this one. My now Hare Krishna mum who hasn't spoken to me since I was a young teen :(

My aunty and uncle had a real kick ass stereo with this awesome big subwoofer with red flashing lights. This song was superb through that thing :)

The depth in his voice was actually quite amazing. He was one of a kind back in his day.

I know it was mainstream but this one that was released 6 yrs before I was even born is one of those songs for me by Metallica. It takes me way back to around the age of 9-10 and really influenced me in getting into the Rock/Metal scene in my teens and beyond. If it wasn't for this gem i probably wouldn't have gotten into the likes of Alice In Chains, Faith No More, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Korn, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Soulfly, Pantera, Stone Sour, Tomahawk etc. (My favourite bands) I'm not really a big fan of their music but this one is in my top 10 Heavy music songs of all time without a doubt. Possibly no.1

I know that Metallica Heads will say but yeah this and that from their earlier albums was heavier and superior but nah, this song is their ultimate peak in brilliance for me. The sound is perfect. The perfect Heavy metal song. And original in every way including the clip.

This song came out when I was five. It was the first record I had that wasn't a kiddie record. I had never heard the song, but I begged my parents to buy it for me because it had a pink label and pink was my favorite color. I took it home and played it and fell in love with the song.

This was a sing along favourite in the family.

Here is another. This one is purely for the sound and also for being in that intense 'Boys Don't Cry' movie I watched when I was around 13. Great movie. It was fucking sad though :(

Far too many to list. Always had the radio on in the car, had a stack of 45s three feet tall. Mom worked at a tv/radio station and brought the freebies home.

Spin the dial and grab one from the 60s.

Eventually 8-track came along, it was like witchcraft or sorcery.

I love this song but hate how it makes me teary eyed over a stupid computer.

Ahh. Break from doom. Ty. Yeah - although I was born in the 70’s grew up with 60’s music even 50’s…. And TV watching - raised by gramma born in the 20’s. I’ve an understanding of old movies and especially Westerns.

I’ve two or three special ones.

Was a really big deal around 1964 we got our first LP album, Hard Day's Night - The Beatles.

This one was always magical to me as a young boy. And even now the sound is awesome through a good system. This song has aged very well almost 4 decades later

Film clip is outdated but the sound is more than current. It could still be released in 10 years time and hold its own sound wise :)
