As a kid in the 80s I don’t remember stores ever selling water/water bottles. They only had drinks, we got our water from home.

Do you remember water bottles being sold in the 80s

Now we have a huge amount of people that have great well water at their house and they buy cases of walmart water for their family to drink on.
Do they need the fluoride?

There were also public drinking fountains everywhere. Safe, clean drinking water, everywhere. We did that. It was magical.

Bottled spring water is better than drinking from a municipal supply in most cases.

Back in the 80's we weren't as aware of the fluoride and other toxic shit in our public drinking water.

Obviously having a well and a good filter is the best option but that's a minority of people in this country.

Sparkling water was bottled back then & seen as somewhat "elite" or "flashy".

I seem to recall Evian as being the first to really go full retard. What a gamble.

How do you know Bottled spring water is any dif than city water?
Both are treated with shit. They don’t have to list fluoride, or chlorine.

yah. I think it was 'Something? Springs' was the first bottled water that took off.

I remember it was funny, because Water Fountains were kind of a courtesy...why would you pay for water?

Some bottled water is better than others.

Spring water is technically supposed to come from a spring, which is water that is typically filtered through much earth and superior to the treated wastewater that comes out of your tap.

You have to be careful though, some of the bottled water companies are actually fluoridating it without labeling it.

I remember you could always get at least distilled water in bottles from the store. My mom would buy it to use in her iron.

I remember when bottled water first came out thinking...what a dumb fucking idea.

It's dumb in practice. but, obviously turned out to be a winning product. It's still ridiculous to me.

How many fucking plastic water bottles are there... we're a dumb ass society.

There's an old episode of Leave it to Beaver...

It's a hot summer weekend day & the municipal water is about to go offline for several hours. Beaver gets the idea to stock up on water beforehand & then take it through the neighborhood while the water's off, and sell it to all the thirsty neighbors (he wanted a big kid baseball uniform, I think)

Basically everyone got offended, and Beaver learned that selling WATER to neighbors was unethical and exploitative.

Crazy how perceptions have changed.

Plastic water bottles are formed from one big tube of plastic. The tube is cut with a hot iron and often the bottles are filled while they are still hot, leaching plastic into the water. I have a neighbor who doesn't drink tap water; just bottled. I'm waiting for him to croak of cancer.

I Agree
Arrowhead was proven to contain the most fluoride but that was from 5 years ago

I think you have to consider the fact that a lot of people have come to understand just how unhealthy the fructose syrup and "diet" soda pop drinks are, and stopped buying them. I drink the tap water at home, but when I'm away from home, we drink bottled water instead of all that nasty soft drink stuff.

There used to be a comedian that made jokes about selling water when they first started doing it. If you asked an average American in the 1970s and prior if they wanted to buy a bottle of water you might as well have asked them if they wanted to buy a can of air.

I recall Evian (Satanic version of Naive) showing up in the early 90s.

All the other bottled waters followed after.

But in the 80s we used to play on those spinning things at the park and fly off them and throw up and injury eachother and scratch ourselves up and we were screaming and blood was everywhere and not one adult face a single shit.
You best start believing in conspiracy theories, you're living in one!
