Cha Ching Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78203199 Well hopefully someone measured the carbon footprint for the sake of the children! Oh the HUGE MANATEE. Not only can they not figure out how to carry on the we been to the moon, ya'll lie properly, they can't decide if they are supposed to care about "environmental impacts" with the continued pointless rocket launches to nowhere. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 84220733 Just a thought, you all know how the moon effects the ocean tides, what if every time various countries send probes, bombs, etc. to the moon tragic flood, earthquake's, volcano’s, etc. happen?! The Moon, whatever it is, has no effect on Earth. Correlation is not causation, and the explanation of how the Moon supposedly causes tides is utter shit. |

On Earth, the water we drink came out of a dinosaur's bladder, or the liquified putrification of a pig at one point in time. It evaporates, gets some UV exposure, and rains down again nice and clean. Just a matter of scale. I am sure they must be recycling urine into drinking water on the ISS space station as well. If you need gravity, make the space station rotate. So this is the one thing that tells me that we actually went, until somebody can explain away its existence. My first thought is that the reflector, if there is one up there might have simply been landed like out unmanned probe missions. We certainly had motors and batteries that could have aimed the thing. Even if using something like flight controllers from a model airplane. :) How precisely does the near face of the Moon stay aligned with Earth anyway? And how much angular offset in the reflector would still provide a reflected laser signal that can be detected on Earth? Is there a photo and design drawing available for the reflector that was left on the Moon? I see a photo of it here. [link to static01.nyt.com (secure)] [link to www.researchgate.net (secure)] Looks like a bunch of tiny Also, it looks like it is mounted to a device that might be adjustable by remote control. I must say that it looks like a 6 year old kit built it. Look at the sides of the reflector. Looks like a bad Bondo job on a 66 impala. :) And weight reduction is critical on anything going to space, yet it looks like that frame is made from heavy angle iron and bolts! Maybe it is Titanium though. Just looks like near zero craftsmanship involved in that support device. Did Howard Walowitz build that when he was drunk? Edit: Found some details. I guess they have several of those reflectors up there. [link to www.researchgate.net (secure)] Last Edited by JustmeTX on 11/16/2022 08:46 AM Justme |

They *do* have some pretty interesting systems on the ISS, but my gut tells me a perfect recycling system, where not a single atom ever needs to be vented, would be pretty damn difficult to pull off. I suppose it's not physically impossible, but IMO a Mars colony sounds easier to do technologically. I do like the idea of a big rotating space station though, even if it's not 100% self-sufficient, especially since Mars/Moon gravity may not be strong enough to promote good health anyway. It'll be interesting to see the physiological difference of long-term Moon habitation vs the ISS. |

The problem comes when they return to Earth and are hit by gravity again. Their skeletons decalcify in weightless conditions. Not a problem while in space, but you need a strong skeleton on Earth. If they never return to Earth, no problem. ALthough maybe the digestive system needs a little gravity to work properly. Justme |
