Anonymous Coward User ID: 77374864 United States 11/18/2022 08:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ohio here too ... but I came back after living in the East, in the South, and in the Southwest. Why? Great people here and there IS lots to do here if you just look. Every big city in Ohio is very very different from every other city, which makes it an interesting place ... and while there are no mountains there is LOTS of wilderness, great canoeing, the Great Lakes (I love to sail on the Great Lakes), and lots of culture - particularly in Cleveland and Cincinnati. There is also a growing young person cultural thing happening in Cleveland, Columbus, and Cinncinnati - and very good music happening in all three of those places. My one son left a great job working for Vail Corp in Colorado to return ... he said the mountains were nice but there was actually MORE outdoor stuff here to do that he liked doing than existed in Colorado (he loves the outdoors - part of his soul) PLUS we have a LOT more cultural things going on here than they have there. He hasn't regretted leaving that so called "Cool" place in the least he tells me. One advantage for middle class people about Ohio is that it is a reasonable cost of living place to live, unlike the Coasts, and in an 8 hour drive one can still be on beaches on the Atlantic Coast, be all the way up to the tip of Michigan (the Northwest side of Michigan is a fabulous place to go in the summer ... and winter), be in Chicago, be in Atlanta, or be skiing in NY State /Michigan /WV. In 3 hours drive time you can be White Water rafting, canoeing, sailing big water. The Cleveland Orchestra is one of the top 5 in the US, usually ranked #3, ... AND you can actually afford to buy tickets to go see them!! YOU have to decide what FOR YOU is "cool". Every person is different. Decide what YOU think is "Cool" and where you want to be will just fall out. (Personally I am thank for for having crappy winters here ... keeps the coastal liberal riff raff away ... which imo is a GREAT trade off!) Good luck |

Good luck You are correct that Ohio has a reasonable cost of living. You are also correct that if one takes a city like Cincinnati and draws a circle around it of 300 miles, it is drivable to a lot of other cities. But as far as music and culture goes? Na. Ohio has a terrible population of human beings. 18% blacks...so about 50% more blacks than the US average + Adams County Ohio is called 'the heart' of appalachia. Meaning there are hill billy whites all over the place. So that is 40% of the state right there.. And all the cities in ohio are pretty much the same to me (although Cincinnati has hillsides). Bad Climate + Bad People. It does have a lot of golf courses because of Jack Nicklaus I guess. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 81909901 I have no aspirations. I live in Ohio. Ohio sucks badly. But it isn't expensive to live here really. And I have a nice house, small, with a built in pool. but fuck...pool weather is only about 2 1/2 months in ohio. How do I remake myself into a cool guy at this Point? What is a cool life style? A condo in Tampa? The West Coast seems like every white asshole + mexicans + asians. And a shit load of people. Not for me. Phoenix. Texas. Nice to visit ... I don't want to live in no fucking desert. I grew up in NY. Cool as hell, and glad I came from there...but also too crowded. Florida is getting too crowded too. I really don't know...is there any cool place in the USA anymore? Like a reasonable cost of living + shit to do? Interesting intelligent people? I duno anymore. I am really starting to feel like it may be time to think of some other country to live in. you sound like an asshole from ohio |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77970679 United States 11/20/2022 11:27 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | crappiest city in ohio. downtown is a dump. ohio state is 100,000 'tards from Cleveland that couldn't get accepted to Miami University. Cleveland has a cool vibe..on the river, a little east-coast big city. cincinnati has the ohio river and some cool hillsides..better art/food scene. columbus is just a plain in the middle of the state where they put a governor's office. It's like Indianapolis with no style |
