Anonymous Coward User ID: 78434351 United States 11/19/2022 02:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Man can walk on Titan without a spacesuit yet we focus in on Mars. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78434351 Is this for real? Titan has always fascinated me. Now I need to dig more. As I understand it yes the atmosphere is similar enough to earth that a person could walk the surface without a spacesuit. They would however need enough clothing to sustain the unbelievably cold temps. Interestingly enough it's so damn cold the lakes there are made up of hydrocarbons that usually boil around -40f meaning a crew there could literally go fill up tanks and use the energy to stay warm and keep power on. It makes by far the most sense to colonize because of the atmosphere and the abundance of hydrocarbons for heat/energy. Though I gotta imagine staring out into a nights sky that's practically all Saturn would be a tad creepy. |

I agree, I don't know if I could handle looking at it that close that often. I also wonder how the rings would look like that close...might just look like a rock field from that distance or a brilliant spectacle of ice. Then you've got all the other moons out there too. The sky would be cluttered but I agree the planet is both beautiful and terrifying. With all the other stuff orbiting around it would be quite a sight. Haunting and beautiful... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 84477481 Canada 11/19/2022 03:03 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | a list of interesting things, links to past content is great as well. i look at tonight's posts and it is so boring. is it because they won ? did we lose our curiosity beyond when doom is coming and politics and sports. Quoting: panther0621 No, it got sidetracked by deep state and M/I/C. 1950s and 60s CIA ops like exploding cigars and drug experiments...Doom threads... They just seem so tame to the operations going on last 20 years. That and the facebook crowd that settled here and makes facebook style posts non-stop that are always pinned. That being said, I'll tell you something relatively unknown from the history books. In Julius Caesar's account of his conquests of western gaul, he described the barbarians of one particular coast town to have ocean vessels akin to galleons. Ships able to adeptly handle rough seas and tides far better than the roman ships. Caesar had to use extreme tactics including brute force ramming and rappeling because the barbarian ships were designed for deep-ocean travel and danced around the roman ships. That account makes a guy wonder how in blazes the barbarians got those kind of craft. Could that style of ship made a trans-atlantic crossing? Judging by the account, it certainly is possible. |
