Using PayPal to sell a car is just stupid... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 84812059 And no reporting if it is a cash sale lol Aaaaaaaaaant! Wrong! They catch you at the DMV. The sale has to be reported at the DMV, and the buyer has to report the amount of money they paid for the vehicle. You could get the buyer to possibly lie, but that's a risk. And if you think they don't look at the DMV records, you're an idiot. In my county the county tax people actually get the sales records from the local stores on building materials sales. If you buy building materials like drywall, or outside wall materials, the tax assessor makes a visit to your home. It's happened to me, and it's happened to my neighbors, so we asked, and that's what they actually do. The tax man is out to get every little penny they can, and it's only going to get worse! |

Yes, the sale is reported to the dmv by the BUYER paying the sales tax, registration, etc...can't get away from paying that unless it qualified for the "gift tax" of $5 The SELLER who received the 5k has no involvement at the dmv...and again NO 1099 is filed... After the sales transaction is done and the BUYER pays all taxes relating to registration etc the tax money goes to the state... |

If you don't mind me asking, where are you located? That's a new one I haven't heard of yet. I know my area has used google earth to bust people for home improvements/additions that were never permitted or reported. My town actually had an elderly couple tear down a wheelchair accessibility ramp a contractor built on the front of my neighbors home. I used to watch the progress when I left for work. It was a nice, solid install. Came home one day and it was completely gone. Another neighbor said the city made them remove it since it wasn't properly permitted. They should've been able to just pay a fine and been done with it. Ultimately, the neighbor had to move her elderly husband into a nursing home to live out his remaining days. |
