Quoting: Kable_KaiI have use a free restore prog from www.pcinspector.de which takes ages to run, (throwing up a bunch of errors along the way) and only found a few of my valuable files. (and a LOT of crap i don't need) But i still have more files on the drive i would like to get off. Does anyone have any other ideas? it has thought me a lesson...do more regular backups!!!!! (you know...i thought i learn't this the last time!) Clarify shit it's self. Errors? |

Seal the drive in a zip-lock bag and leave it in the freezer overnight. Get everything ready ahead of time, then take the drive out of the freezer, plug it in and recover as much data as you can before it warms up. A professional recovery service is expensive. It depends on how valuable your data is & how many $$ you want to spend to try to get it back. . |

This happened to me. I froze my drive for only HALF AN HOUR and it's been working fine ever since (2 years plus). Also, for ultimate drive recovery, get SpinRite from Gibson Research: [link to www.grc.com] |

(you know...i thought i learn't this the last time!) Open the dumped files in a hex editor (prog) and see what the contents are. Sometimes there are clues in the first few lines, then you can rename and append the extensions and see if they still work. |

When i came back to it in 1/2 Hour it had shut itself down. Would not restart. It was constantly resetting itself...it would dispaly the bios info, then the windows splash screen then reset...with a fatal error. So i removed the drive and tried it in a different PC, (as a slave) an in that set it would only come up as an empty drive: 0 Bytes I have now installed a new Hard drive in this PC, but would like to extract some files off the old drive and if possible get it working again: possiby by reformatting it... chkdsk ? But getting it working again is not the priorioty, i would just like to get some more files off. |

I had all kinds of problems like yours, until I ran a RAM-checker, which indicated such. |

Drives are cheap and you can restore your files from the backups you made. You have backed up your data right????? No??????? First three rules of computing. 1. Backup 2. Backup 3. Backup Even brand spanking new drives fail. All drives fail eventually. It's worth a few buck to start backing up your data. |

Yes, i have current backups of the most critical files, but alas not all of my other important (but not critical) files. You know i thought i learnt this lesson the last time it happened :( |
