This is a viable thread! Decades in California & I have not seen such a brazen attack by coyotes. They would go after rabbits, squirrels & even small dogs sadly.

Coyotes can be very bold. Lucky it wasn't a mountain lion.

Poor kid is probably going to need rabies shots.

I swear wild animal attacks in suburban areas is on the increase

Another thing I’ve noticed, although it’s not suburban , shark attacks have been insane the past 2 years.

Watch your own damn kids.

That is a predictable behavior...

...that's why our grandparents hunted wolves to extinction.

Highly unusual behavior for either coyotes OR wolves.

They prefer not to interact with humans.

Coyotes especially will keep their distance from humans. Are usually “opportunistic” hunters. Looking for garbage and things left around.

Wolves might be more aggressive. Especially if it’s a lone wolf, shunned from the pack (it happens frequently), and hungry. But a lone wolf wouldn’t attempt to take down a large target (like a child its own size), and would more likely hunt for birds or mice or other small animals.

It is probably rabid..

Highly unusual for a coyote to do that especially during daylight.

We had a similar incident in my area a few years back. The coyote never actually locked onto the girl, he was spooked before he did any damage.

people dont get it ah, everything is CHANGING, including the animals, vultures in south america also attack living creatures now .... not just dead ones.

I'm not gonna lie, he threw that water bottle at the coyote like a girl.

I've seen coyotes just strolling on the golf course in broad daylight but there was this particular coyote stalking me one day which I thought was weird but it gave up and moved on.

Another time, this coyote was strolling across the fairway then out of sudden, homeowner's dog chased the coyote off the fairway with the homeowner chasing after the dog. lol.

The reality is coyotes have become a major problem, almost coast to coast. They need to let people shoot them on site.

I was gonna make the same comment, but it was effective enough.

I grew up in WH in the 60s and we never saw or heard coyotes. I knew someone who lived in the Hollywood hills and she heard them every night.

Good, let's release hordes in democrap cities, although I'm sure the coyotes will die after eating them from all their vack seens and ghey disease.

I forgot to mention in my post above, when I lived in WH there were probably enough people with rifles to make them disappear without fear of being turned in to the cops.

The animal had enough sense to retreat when the adult entered the scene. Would a rabid animal back down that quick? It could have just been starving.
