Should Euthanizing Be Allowed In America for All Ages; Vote | |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 84890277 United States 12/08/2022 01:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Its better if a person is euthanized in a hospital or somewhere safe and clean than jumping off a building or a bridge or in front of a fast moving train. Society would also be better off without babies born retarded on severely handicap, we need a clean society. |

They call the ancestors' way "savage". In modern times? Will be misused. Fairly pessimistic about that. Short step to coerce dissidents into suicide...or simply do away with them when no family watching. Wide open for it, I'm afraid. "Vote" for who the heck ever you wish - no safeguarding legislation will stop corruption. Ground concept already political, as it resurfaces in the Controllers' mass media. Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 84890277 United States 12/08/2022 01:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | its better to not encourage mental illness. if you are so mentally ill and godless to want to off yourself how about instead of taxpayers paying for it at a hospital you just suck on a lead pill for the cost of 50 cents. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83962289 Taxpayers do pay, someone has to clean up the mess when they jump from a building, or rescue has to spend thousands looking for a person in a river that jump off a bridge. Its cleaner and cheaper to do it in a control room. |

Assisted suicides have always been a hot topic and is way more complex than even abortion. In simple terms, everyone has a right to love. Therefore, should people not have a right to die? With out a humane avenue, people do horrible things to themselves in order to bring the end about. My wife just finished a case where someone committed suicide by shooting themselves in the head with a 9mm. Pressure at the muzzle is around 20-25,000 lbs per square inch. You can imagine what happened to their head. However, there was enough functional brain stem left to keep the body alive. I cannot think of a more horrible way to go. Its a messy subject with no easy answer. It can easily be abused. |

Clearly #2 should be considered, #1 should not. |

Hiram's Apprentice User ID: 80575894 United States 12/08/2022 03:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Good question, very touchy subject, and extremely complicated answer. In an IDEAL society, if one's life was so miserable, unfulfilling, and simply unbearable... then yes. We already acknowledge the right to "life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness" as fundemental. So too, then, should the right to leave this existence gracefully if those three fundementals are unachievable. It would need to be a somewhat rigorous process to be approved for said procedure with counciling, outreach programs, and certain qualifications would need to be met in order to even be considered. Things such as painful terminal illness, serious physical disabilities, criminal history etc... Seriously, who could argue against a hardened criminal with a life sentence or on the waiting list for execution wanting to get it over with ASAP? Or a terminal cancer patient in excruciating pain? Is it really humane to expect them to suffer through a guaranteed slow, painful and miserable death? How is that dignified or even civilized? But for situations such as the common basement troll wanting to off himself just because his internet girlfriend dumped him for whatever reason... No. Just no. Allowing that might be a benifit for society overall but it's simply unethical. Unfortunately we don't have an IDEAL society. There's the very real possibility of coercion, blackmail, fraud and flat out scandal. This topic brings to mind an episode of the cartoon "Futurama" where in the fictional future they have public "suicide booths" which were set up as kiosks nonchalantly on the sidewalk as a photo booth would be at a carnival. Maybe one day we might reach the point where self-elected euthanasia could be a consciously viable option. But the way the world is now, there's too much risk of abuse and fraud. Just my two cents. Good topic, OP. Green to you. And FYI I voted blank for obvious reasons. Last Edited by Doc Clock on 12/08/2022 03:35 AM "Tempus Fugit" |
