To make a long story short, Golitsyn, a Soviet KGB defector, warned in the early 80's that there would be a false liberalization in eastern Europe/communist block countries, and a supposed liberalization of Russia. A few years later, the Berlin wall fell, and the "liberalization" followed.

He warned that this was a scam, that the same powers that be were still in control, and the plot was continuing as planned.
