Interesting New Years question - do you go by your middle name and why was it chosen?

My middle name is my fathers first name

No, really not. Just reminiscing on a new years evening.

Ok, done. didn't want to start up anything, just thought it was an interesting question.

Mine is my father's first name but while my name is fairly common here half the time they want to use my father's first name on things.

I just think it is all interesting.

Why are some names more common? Why would you chose your middle name over your first?..

How do you feel about people that only call others by their last name?

No idea, my first name is far more common here than my father's name so it's always seemed odd. But it doesn't seem to matter as long as I can produce ID with either name on it.
