One summer during a drought a city sewer line that runs through my pasture got stopped up. Water was squirting up about 7 feet high through the holes in it.

The line was small frequently over loaded so I had put a concrete weight (kind used to hold pipelines down in rivers) on top of the manhole cover to keep it from blowing off. A manhole cover is around 70 pounds by itself.

It was in the afternoon when I discovered it & contacted the city. I removed myself far from the site as they pulled off the weight & the cover cause I knew SHIT WAS GONNA FLY!
They tried in simple ways to get it open that afternoon, couldn't & brought in a pump truck the next day with no luck. The 3rd day they brought in a bigger pump truck & finally got it opened.

Around 7 acres of my pasture was standing in sewage water before it was unclogged. It was stinky as you would expect but hey it was mostly (LOL) water & it was really dry.

The next few years the pasture grew grass & everything like crazy! It was great fertilize & didn't stink near as bad as chicken house fertilize! It did smell like piss down there for YEARS. I'm thankful mainlining drugs wasn't a thing here at the time so no needles but did have condoms & tampon applicators to deal with around the manhole.

Can't imagine the smell in a city but hey SanFran residents are accustomed to the smell of urine & shit already!
